Further to the Government’s announcement on 22nd October 2020 about the changes to the Job Support Scheme we have updated our advice accordingly. The Job Support Scheme (JSS) will continue on from the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) as a way to help businesses retain staff and avoid redundancies, whether they have a reduced demand or have had to close; JSS Open or JSS Closed.
The Job Support Scheme is available for all businesses and/or employees regardless of whether they claimed during the Coronavirus Job retention Scheme. Large businesses will be required to complete a financial assessment before being eligible whereas small and medium sized businesses will automatically qualify.
The scheme requires an employee to work a minimum of 1/5 of their normal working week with 2/3 of their unworked hours being paid to them through the Job Support Scheme.
We have updated our simple visual factsheet illustrating the key points about how the scheme works, a comparison between JSS Open vs JSS Closed and how an example salary is calculated.
