One of the most complex and challenging areas for employers during this time has been the salary support schemes offered by the government; first the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (also known as the Furlough Scheme), then the proposed Job Support Scheme which was then superseded by an extension of the original Furlough scheme . The initiatives have been implemented to prevent employers having to lay-off high numbers of staff during this period. The Furlough Scheme has been extended until March 2021, running for a further 6 months beyond October 2020. The scheme has not changed significantly since its launch in April 2020 but there are some adjustments that employers need to be aware of.
