Right To Work
The Asylum & Immigration Act (1997) makes it a criminal offence to employ someone who does not have the right to work in the U.K and all employers have a legal responsibility to perform identity checks on all people employed by them. A recent amendment to the Act dictates that these checks must now be carried out before an employee starts work for you. As an NI number is no longer sufficient and must be accompanied by a bewildering list of additional documents, employers are at risk of receiving hefty fines.
